The JPO announced on July 8, 2011 that reductions in the official fees for patent examination requests will come into effect on August 1, 2011. The amount of the reduction will be approximately 25%. The changes in fees are as follows:

Request for Examination in the national phase of a PCT application(where ISA is the JPO)	71,000 yen + 2,400 yen per claim	101,200 yen + 2,400 yen per claim	Applications in which the international filing date is on or after April 1, 2004

The revised fees will be applied to examination requests filed on or after August 1, 2011. 

However, these reductions will not apply to deferred examination fees in application for which examination requests were filed but the payments were deferred for one year.
