JPO Signature Rules Relaxed – Copies of Power of Attorney Forms Will be Accepted as of September 26, 2022
September 27, 2022
Previously, the JPO accepted only original signed Power of Attorney forms. However, the JPO announced on September 26, 2022, that a copy of a Power of Attorney form will be an acceptable filing at the JPO. The change is effective as of September 26, 2022.
To this end, the JPO will now also accept (1) a scan of a Power of Attorney form having a handwritten signature (2) a Power of Attorney form with an e-signature in the format “/signature/”, and (3) a Power of Attorney form with no signature (blank signature lines) but with the typed name of the signatory, his/her title and the date, which comprise the standard required signature box for all Power of Attorney filings.
